It started as a joke, something Austin Wells did to pass the time. Now, it’s on the Yankee Stadium menu.
Austin Wells homers hours after launch of the “Favurrito”

Despite the Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Rays on Friday, Austin Wells continued to make noise on and off the field. His 384-foot homer — his sixth of the season — put New York ahead 2-1 in the fifth inning. The blast came just hours after fans got their first taste of “The Wells Favurrito,” a breakfast burrito crafted by Wells himself and sold exclusively during day games at Sections 110, 217, and 321. The burrito includes scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, Maple City fries, cheddar jack cheese, and chipotle aioli.
Wells, who created an Instagram account last month reviewing breakfast burritos in opposing clubhouses, has gained over 80,000 followers on @wells.ranked.burritos. Friday’s rollout marked the burrito brand’s first real-life crossover with Yankees fans.
Not everyone’s a fan
However, not everyone was impressed. “Glad it wasn’t a flavurrito, cause it didn’t have a lot of it,” former Yankees reliever Jeff Nelson quipped.

Journalist Max Goodman was more measured: “I tried this today as well … it doesn’t look like the promo pictures, it’s pretty small and pricey, but I actually thought it was solid! Breakfast option for day games is always a good thing. Went in with low expectations. Sauce is really good and liked the maple flavor too.”

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic weighed in as well, writing: “The Wells Favurrito. Quite small. $12.28.”
How it all started
A month ago, the Yankees catcher launched @wells.ranked.burritos, where he began reviewing breakfast burritos he encountered on the road. The page quickly took off, gaining thousands of followers as fans leaned into his surprisingly methodical scoring system and dry sense of humor.
“I’ve been eating breakfast burritos for years,” Wells told reporters in early April. “On the road, it’s kind of my go-to thing. The idea just popped up — let’s start ranking them.”
This weekend, the results of that light-hearted hobby were on full display at Yankee Stadium. During the Yankees’ day game against the Rays, fans began posting photos of the Wells Favurrito, now officially inspired by Austin Wells and served only during day games.
The burrito, available in Sections 110, 217 and 321, features scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, Maple City fries, cheddar jack cheese and chipotle aioli, all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. It’s a hearty option that leans into breakfast comfort — exactly the kind of thing Wells has been scoring for weeks on his feed.
Importantly, the Favurrito isn’t just branding. It’s a reflection of what Wells actually likes. The burrito is modeled after one he gave a high score to early in his reviewing career, and Wells was reportedly involved in picking the final ingredients.
“It had to be legit,” he said. “If my name is going to be on something, I want it to be something I’d actually eat.”
Long lines, mixed reactions
Some fans embraced it quickly. During the first few innings of Sunday’s game, social media filled up with snapshots of the burrito, each wrapped in custom “Wells Favurrito” foil. One fan called it “a top-tier stadium breakfast.” Another joked they’d waited in line longer for the burrito than for any Yankees autograph.
This isn’t the first time a player has had fun with food — but it’s rare to see it become an official ballpark offering so quickly. According to a Yankees spokesperson, the team saw Wells’ Instagram blowing up and reached out with the idea in mid-April. The concept moved fast from there.
“He’s got a personality, and fans love it,” the spokesperson said. “We thought, why not lean into it?”
Austin Wells, now in his first full season with the Yankees, has already carved out a reputation for being thoughtful at the plate and quirky off the field. While his bat has shown flashes this season, it’s his side project that has earned him cult status wi
