Jordan Montgomery, a notable figure in the baseball world and a former player for the New York Yankees, is potentially making a return to the AL East, as reported on Monday. However, this time, he might be donning the colors of the Red Sox, the biggest rival of the Yankees.
Red Sox meet with Jordan Montgomery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed recent discussions with the free-agent starter, validating ESPN’s Buster Olney’s report. Cora acknowledged a virtual meeting with Montgomery, emphasizing that it was part of the ongoing offseason process, which occurred shortly before the start of spring training.
According to Cora, without delving into specifics, the meeting took place in the virtual realm, a common practice during the current baseball landscape.
On Monday morning, MLB insider Peter Gammons shared insights from a National League executive, stating, “We hear the Red Sox and Scott Boras had a good meeting recently and may get some deal eventually done on Jordan Montgomery.”
Jordan Montgomery, a former player for the New York Yankees was initially linked as a target for the Yankees. However, for reasons yet to be disclosed, the anticipated deal did not materialize as expected. This situation bears a resemblance to Cody Bellinger’s recent move, who also faced unexpected turns before joining the Chicago Cubs. Now, it seems Montgomery is in discussions with the Red Sox, adding an intriguing twist to his offseason journey.
Jordan Montgomery, coming off an impressive season with a 3.20 ERA over 188 2/3 innings pitched for the Cardinals and Rangers, played a crucial role in leading the Rangers to the World Series. The 31-year-old, having spent six seasons with the Yankees before being traded to the Cardinals in 2022 for outfielder Harrison Bader, is now exploring the possibility of joining the Red Sox.

I always thought because of his wife’s residency, Montgomery was always a real possibility to sign with the Red Sox. The chance to sleep with his wife on a regular basis, sounds to me as good a reason as any to sign there. Oh yes, the money he might make elsewhere won’t be too significant to sway him.
