After one of the most successful careers spanning over two decades, Derek Jeter retired as one of the best baseball players ever. He remains in the pantheon of the Yankees as one of the greatest. However, Jeter’s greatness doesn’t owe only to awards, achievements, or trophies. His attitude, on-field exploits, constant desire to win, and immaculate sense of sportsmanship that make him a cult figure among baseball fans.

But something else that stood out about him throughout his career was that he stayed away from conflict and controversy. And his skill at getting along with other people set him apart from many other players. And Derek Jeter never changed his mind about this.

Nine years after he became Yankees captain, the shortstop was once asked about his friend and the Buccaneers’ football quarterback Tom Brady. As expected, the five-time World Champion gave a short, simple, and diplomatic answer. In an interview with the Boston Herald in 2012, Jeter talked about being a fan of Tom Brady and how much he liked the quarterback from Michigan. As the interview went on, Jeter was asked who he thought would be the better quarterback between Tom Brady and Drew Henson.

As expected, Jeter continued to show that he was too diplomatic and wouldn’t choose a side. He answered the question with a classic Jeter six-word answer. Derek Jeter, who has been an All-Star 14 times and is in the Hall of Fame, said:

“I don’t get involved in controversies.”

Back in 1996, when Tom Brady was a student at Michigan, he didn’t just get his spot on the team. He had to fight Drew Henson to keep his job as a quarterback. But Brady beat Henson in the end, and he started every game during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Both athletes have said in the past that they like the other one. They’ve also praised each other for everything they’ve done and been impressed by how hard they work and how much they want to win.

Tom Brady and Derek Jeter have known each other for a long time. In the same way, when Brady left the New England Patriots after 20 years and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, he moved into Captain Clutch’s fancy mansion in Tampa. The house was more than 22,000 square feet and had a wine cellar, a movie theater, a pool, and a huge garage. Don’t forget that Jeter sold his huge mansion that looked like a palace for a huge $22.5 million earlier in 2021.

When NFL star Tom Brady said in an interview in 2012 that he liked the former shortstop Derek Jeter, MLB fans were shocked. When Jeter said the same thing about Brady, NFL fans felt the same way. As soon as they both said nice things about each other, comparisons between them were bound to start.

At the time, it was common for people to compare them to people or athletes in general. They wanted to find out which athlete was better and who had done more. Americans who like sports have always wanted to know who was better, Jeter or Brady. But when Derek Jeter talked about it, he quickly rejected all the comparisons that were being made between him and Brady.

How to you rate Derek Jeter as a man of words?
