It’s been nearly a week since reports surfaced about the Yankees’ agreement with Max Fried on an eight-year, $218 million contract. The delay in official confirmation has sparked concern among fans and analysts.
WFAN host Chris McMonigle voiced his apprehension, stating, “Here’s my question: why haven’t they announced Max Fried yet? I don’t want to be an alarmist… but I’m starting to worry.”
Yankees fans impatient with the delayed announcement of Fried

The Yankees promptly announced a trade involving left-hander Nestor Cortes and infield prospect Caleb Durbin to the Milwaukee Brewers for reliever Devin Williams on the same day it occurred. In contrast, the absence of an official announcement regarding Fried has led to speculation.
Because of that, not only has Chris McMonigle raised concerns, but other die-hard Yankees fans have also voiced their frustration about the delayed announcement.
A user identified as @NY_EvilEmpire said: “Today would be a great day to officially announce Max Fried a Yankee. Sincerely.”
Another fan reinforced this sentiment, writing: “Kinda getting nervous why the Yankees still haven’t announced Max Fried,” tweeted a fan named @jjmartino_ on X.com this afternoon.
On the other hand, a fan called @papagade expressed that he is not even worried about the delay. He included two reasons: firstly, that by this time, anyone would have heard about a failed physical. Secondly, he pointed out that “The Yankees take FOREVER to announce signings.”
The Yankees and the delayed confirmation of Max Fried’s signing

According to NJ.com, Fried’s medical history could be a factor in the delay. He has previously dealt with forearm injuries and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2014. Such considerations might necessitate thorough medical evaluations before finalizing the deal.
It’s worth noting that delayed announcements are not uncommon in MLB transactions. For instance, the Mets took three days to officially announce Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million contract after initial reports. Similarly, the signing of right-hander Clay Holmes was confirmed 10 days after reports emerged.
Offseason logistics and player availability can influence the timing of official announcements. While the wait may be unsettling, it doesn’t necessarily indicate issues with the agreement.
