New York Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt, sidelined since late May with a right lat strain, is set to begin a rehab assignment this week, with his first outing expected on Friday, likely with Double-A Somerset. Schmidt is slated to throw around 50 pitches during the start, he confirmed.
Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt optimistic amid rehab

It remains uncertain how many rehab appearances the right-hander will require before rejoining the Yankees. Clarke Schmidt, however, expressed optimism about his recovery, saying he feels “really good” and hopes the rehab process won’t be prolonged.
Before his injury, Clarke Schmidt had made 11 starts for New York this season, posting a 2.52 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP with 67 strikeouts over 60.2 innings. The 28-year-old was in the midst of a career-best season before being sidelined.
Clarke Schmidt, who transitioned to a full-time starter role in 2023, has a 3.97 ERA over 78 games (48 starts) across five seasons with the Yankees. Last season, he recorded a 4.64 ERA.
Clarke Schmidt’s return would provide a timely boost for the Yankees, who on the same day placed Luis Gil on the 15-day injured list, making Schmidt’s comeback even more critical as the team approaches the stretch run.
