DJ LeMahieu, a crucial figure in the Yankees’ lineup, is the latest addition to the roster’s injury concerns as spring training draws to a close, according to the New York Post. His right foot became a point of concern after he fouled a ball off it during the Yankees’ recent matchup against the Blue Jays.

Although X-rays revealed no fractures, LeMahieu clearly experienced discomfort, yet valiantly continued playing, managing to hit a single and run the bases before being substituted for a pinch hitter. However, upon reporting to the Yankees’ facility the following day, he still complained of soreness, prompting caution from manager Aaron Boone.

Aaron Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, expressed hope that LeMahieu’s injury is only a minor issue but acknowledged that the impact was significant. This injury is particularly worrisome considering LeMahieu’s history with foot problems, including a broken bone in his big toe and ligament damage to his second toe in 2022.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge, another cornerstone of the team, remained in Tampa, focusing on his rehabilitation from an abdominal issue. His regimen included hitting indoors for the third consecutive day, with plans to face high-velocity pitches from a machine. Despite the change in setting, Boone remained optimistic about Judge’s progress, noting his positive response to increased workload.

In other developments, reliever Tommy Kahnle marked a significant milestone in his recovery journey by completing his first live batting practice session of the spring. Following shoulder inflammation that prematurely ended his previous season, Kahnle expressed satisfaction with his performance and physical condition. However, his return to game action remains uncertain, with Boone suggesting that Kahnle may require several more sessions before being game-ready, possibly causing him to miss the start of the regular season.

As the Yankees make roster decisions, outfielder Everson Pereira was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday’s game. While Pereira showed promise with a late-season call-up last year, the organization believes he would benefit from further development in the minors before returning to the majors.

Overall, with LeMahieu’s foot scare adding to existing injury concerns, the Yankees are navigating a delicate balance between ensuring player health and readiness for the upcoming season. As key players like LeMahieu and Judge work through their rehabilitation processes, the team faces the challenge of managing their roster effectively to maintain competitiveness.
