Oswald Peraza, the Yankees’ infielder, underwent additional testing on his problematic shoulder in Dunedin, Fla., causing growing concern within the team. Following an MRI examination, Peraza proceeded with an arthrogram, a procedure employing dye contrast to investigate joint issues, as the Yankees sought to pinpoint the cause of his shoulder tightness.

Aaron Boone, the Yankees‘ manager, expressed apprehension as Oswald Peraza underwent further evaluation, indicating that the need for additional tests following the initial MRI was not a positive development. Boone anticipated learning more about Peraza’s condition by Friday night or Saturday morning, acknowledging the uncertainty regarding potential downtime for Peraza and the team’s subsequent course of action.

“Let’s see what we get here first and if it’s going to cost him time down or whatever,” Boone said before the Yankees faced the Blue Jays at TD Ballpark. “I guess we’ll cross that bridge [when] we see what we have and continue to evaluate as we go.”

In Tampa, Oswald Peraza conveyed his anxieties to Joel Sherman of The Post, revealing his concerns while awaiting medical updates. Although Peraza entered Spring Training vying for a bench position, any injury jeopardizes his readiness for the March 28 season opener, casting doubt on his availability.

Oswald Peraza’s shoulder issues surfaced initially when he was sidelined from a February 27 game due to tightness. Despite returning to gameplay shortly after, Peraza experienced discomfort during consecutive matches, ultimately expressing an inability to execute his usual defensive maneuvers, prompting further evaluation.

Renowned for his defensive prowess, Oswald Peraza’s injury complicates the Yankees’ roster dynamics, particularly in identifying a backup shortstop should Peraza remain sidelined. While utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera offers versatility, the Yankees may require him to assume various defensive roles if he secures a roster spot. Alternatively, Kevin Smith, a non-roster invitee with major league experience, emerges as a potential candidate for the backup shortstop position, with the option of exploring trade or waiver opportunities to bolster infield depth.

The uncertainty surrounding Oswald Peraza’s injury underscores the challenges faced by the Yankees as they navigate Spring Training and strive to address roster needs ahead of the upcoming season.
