New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone disagreed with Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s assessment that the Royals “just got lucky” in their Game 2 win of the ALDS, but understood the context behind the comment.
Boone acknowledges Royals’ strong performance
Speaking on Tuesday after a workout at Yankee Stadium, Boone acknowledged the Royals’ strong performance but noted Chisholm’s frustration with missed opportunities as the likely reason for his remarks.
“I don’t think they got lucky, I think they did a lot of really good things and came in here and beat us,” Boone said. “But I also looked at the line of questioning. What he was referring to more was probably we did hit into some tough luck—there were some hard-hit balls.”
“So that line of questioning continued to where Jazz can be colorful sometimes. In his head, because of the confidence he has in himself and our group, like, ‘Hey, they got lucky.’ But I don’t think that was the case. They obviously played really well. They played two really good games against us and earned themselves a victory [Monday] night.”
Jazz Chisholm’s confidence
Following the Yankees’ 2-4 loss on Monday, star player Jazz Chisholm Jr. remained optimistic about the team’s chances of winning the series. On Tuesday, Chisholm took to social media to share a message with fans, emphasizing the power of belief.
“If you don’t believe you’re gonna win it, you won’t!” Jazz Chisholm posted on X (formerly Twitter). “So you better speak this s*** into existence and believe! #LFG.”
His post quickly gained attention, racking up over 8,000 likes and nearly 500,000 views. A few hours later, Jazz Chisholm lightened the mood, posting again, “Alright, I’m done trolling!! See y’all tomorrow,” indicating his focus had shifted to the next game.
Despite Jazz Chisholm’s confident stance, Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided a more measured take. Boone acknowledged Chisholm’s confidence in both himself and the team but disagreed with the notion that luck played a role in the loss.
“In his head, because of the confidence he has in himself and our group, he’s thinking, ‘Hey, they got lucky,’” Boone said. “But I don’t think that was the case. They obviously played really well.”
The Yankees will look to bounce back in Game 3 on Thursday, with Jazz Chisholm’s confidence continuing to inspire the team as they aim to even the series.
