The Yankees were unexpectedly down a player during their first spring training workout for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday.
Right-handed reliever Eric Reyzelman, a hard-throwing prospect coming off a breakout 2024 season, was sent to a local hospital after suffering an allergic reaction before the team’s workout at Steinbrenner Field. Reyzelman was admitted for observation but remained in stable condition.
“He’ll be kept overnight for observation, and we’ll have another update likely (Thursday),” Yankees spokesperson Jason Zillo said.
The team did not disclose what triggered the allergic reaction, with Zillo adding, “There is uncertainty, so we’re going to wait for doctors to give us more information.”
Reyzelman’s rapid rise

Reyzelman, 23, was invited to Yankees big-league spring training as a non-roster player following a dominant 2024 campaign. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound right-hander impressed across three minor league levels, relying heavily on his high-velocity fastball, which touches 99 mph.
Over 31 appearances, he posted a 1.16 ERA with five saves and 63 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. His standout performance included a 1.93 ERA across 21 games for Double-A Somerset, along with an 0.00 ERA in 10 combined appearances for High-A Hudson Valley and the Florida Complex League Yankees.
Reflecting on his rise last September, Reyzelman told MiLB.com, “I feel like a million bucks right now. I have the most confidence in myself when I get on the mound.”
While his spring training debut has been temporarily derailed, the Yankees will await further updates as doctors continue to monitor the young right-hander.
