ANAHEIM, Calif. — The New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge hit his 51st homer against the Angels on Tuesday amid a standing ovation from the crowd. The 2017 rookie of the year now needs 11 more home runs from 32 games to surpass the record of 61 home runs in a single season, which could become a milestone in baseball history.
The California-born outfielder hit .296 with 110 RBIs and is a big reason why the New York Yankees are among the MLB’s elite. Aaron Judge joined the Yankees in 2016 and went on to win the AL home run leader award the next season.
After two consecutive home runs in two games against the Angels, Judge is 11 short of breaking Roger Maris’ 1961 Yankees record of 61 home runs in one season. It stands as the AL single-season home run record for the past 60 years.
The whole baseball world is interested in seeing if Aaron Judge can surpass Roger Maris in 2022, as the Yankees are scheduled to play 32 MLB games in the next two months. From now until the end of the season, we are keeping track of every home run he hits.
Here is where Aaron Judge is on his way to making MLB history. The four-time All-Star player is the second-fastest after Ryan Howard to hit 200 home runs in the MLB. Judge is also the third Yankee and 10th MLB player to score 50 home runs in multiple seasons.
The next game is at LAA on Wednesday at 9:38 p.m. ET (facing Patrick Sandoval)
Home run No. 51
Mike Mayers, who started for the Angels, threw a fastball to Aaron Judge, who hit it to center field. He now has the same number of home runs before September as Roger Maris.
Home run No. 50
Aaron Judge homered on a 1-1 curveball from Jose Quijada. Since Roger Maris in 1961, no Yankee has hit 50 home runs before September. His second 50-homer season. Judge joins Babe Ruth (4) and Mickey Mantle as Yankees with multiple 50-HR seasons (2). He’s on pace for 63 homers.
Can Aaron Judge break the 60-year-old record for most home runs in a season? Is there any competitor to this home-run machine of the Yankees? What do you think? Leave a comment below.
