A day after the New York Yankees‘ blowout defeat by 10-2 over the Mets, the did a bit more bullpen shuffling.

Thus, the Bronx Bombers announced that 24-year-old Yoendrys Gomez was heading back to Triple-A after spending 7.2 innings with the Yankees and posting a 5.87 ERA. Elsewhere, Jake Cousins will see more gametime, despite his side’s poor outing this week.

To complicate things further, Gomez is one of the key names in the Yankees’ developing talents. However, his latest struggles saw him miss out on a spot with a team that can still boast to be top of the American League‘s standings.

What’s going to happen with Yoendrys Gomez?

The Yankees analyzed, but Yoendrys Gomez’s latest appearances donning the Yankees’ shirt was a pretty sign that he could lose his place: He gave up three hits in his first two games over San Diego and Atlanta and pounded out eight with zero earned runs.

On the other hand, against the Mets, he gave up four hits while earning two runs and two homers over two innings. Gomez has more work to do, but there is one minor option left: allowing the Yankees to send him back down without concerns.

In contrast, Jake Cousins is set to receive more playing time despite the team’s recent poor performance. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, boasting 55.2 MLB innings and a solid 3.07 ERA, is noted for his impressive strikeout abilities. While Cousins continues to develop, the Yankees remain committed to his growth, emphasizing their dedication to player development even amid challenging times.

The Yankees’ decision to promote Cousins reflects their strategic approach to bolstering their bullpen amidst ongoing challenges. As they navigate their season, the team remains focused on optimizing player performance and maintaining their competitive edge in the American League standings.
