New York Yankees 6, Baltimore Orioles 7
BALTIMORE — In the Orioles’ home opener on Friday, Ramón Uras hit a double that broke a tie in the seventh inning and then made a great play at third base in the eighth. This helped the Orioles beat the New York Yankees 7-6.
Ron Marinaccio (0-1) let Ryan Mountcastle walk to start the bottom of the seventh inning. Mountcastle stole second when Gunnar Henderson took a called third strike. Then, Jimmy Cordero took the mound and threw a wild pitch before giving Uras a double to left-center, which made the score 6-5.
Uras then scored on Cordero’s second wild pitch of the inning.
In the seventh, Cionel Pérez (1-0) got everyone out with five pitches, but he let a double and two singles start the eighth. Bryan Baker took over for Pérez when Baltimore’s lead was cut to one and there were runners on first and second. Jose Trevino tried to bunt at first, but on a 2-0 pitch, he swung away and hit a hard grounder that Uras caught for a 5-3 double play.
With a man on third, Baker struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa to get the third out.
Félix Bautista pitched a hitless ninth inning to get his third save, but the tying run was on third with two outs after Aaron Judge walked and stole second base and then a wild pitch. Anthony Rizzo ended the game by hitting a routine fly ball to the left.
The home opener for the Orioles was moved from Thursday to Friday because of bad weather.
In the second and third innings, Baltimore scored two runs each, but in the fourth, Franchy Cordero, who was let go by the Orioles last month, hit a three-run homer for New York.
Oswaldo Cabrera‘s two-run double in the sixth put the Yankees ahead, but Adley Rutchman’s RBI single with two outs in the same inning tied the score at 5.
