Live Coverage
Luke Weaver enters with pressure on the mound – 10:15 P.M
Yankees manager Aaron Boone called upon Luke Weaver after Steven Kwan’s RBI single to right off Tim Hill trimmed the Yankees’ lead to 5-2. With runners on the corners and David Fry coming to the plate as the tying run, Boone is relying on Weaver to navigate the Yankees out of a critical moment.
Weaver successfully escaped the jam, stranding runners at first and third to preserve the 5-2 lead with just one inning left. He’s now returning to the mound in the ninth, aiming to close out a five-out save in Game 1 of the ALCS.
The Yankees ultimately secured a 5-2 victory over Cleveland, starting the series with a key win and building early momentum.
Controversial interference call stirs frustration – 10:12 P.M
An interference call put the Yankees in a tough spot after Brayan Rocchio’s grounder slipped under Anthony Rizzo’s glove. Rocchio collided with pitcher Tim Hill near first base, and after a brief umpire discussion, he was awarded second base. The Guardians now have runners at second and third with one out, tightening the pressure on the Yankees’ defense.
Giancarlo Stanton stays hot in the postseason with another blast – 10:02 P.M

Giancarlo Stanton continues his power surge this postseason, smashing his second home run of the playoffs, a towering 439-foot shot to the visiting bullpen. The blast extended the Yankees’ lead to 5-1, as Stanton once again proves to be a crucial force in their lineup.
Carlos Rodon dominates through six, Yankees hold the lead – 9:45 P.M
Carlos Rodon stepped up in a big way, delivering six innings of solid work while holding the Guardians to just three hits and one earned run. He fanned nine batters, racking up 25 swings and misses in a dominant performance that helped the Yankees maintain control.
The only slip came in the sixth when Brayan Rocchio tagged him for a solo home run, but Rodon quickly settled back in. Aaron Judge closed the inning with a smooth running grab, and with Rodón at 93 pitches, Aaron Boone handed the ball to Clay Holmes for the seventh, aiming to preserve the lead.
Rocchio puts Guardians on the board – 9:29 P.M
Brayan Rocchio broke Carlos Rodon’s streak of 11 straight outs, launching a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning and cut the Yankees’ lead to 4-1. Rodon had been in complete control up to that point, but Rocchio’s blast gives the Guardians their first sign of life.
Rodon dominant through five – 9:14
Carlos Rodon has been dealing through five scoreless innings, mowing down the Guardians with nine strikeouts. The Yankees’ lefty allowed just two hits and hasn’t issued a walk, retiring 11 straight before Rocchio’s homer.
Aaron Judge pushes Yankees’ lead to 4-0 – 9:06 P.M
Aaron Judge added another run for the Yankees with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, widening the Bombers’ lead to 4-0.
Stanton extends the lead – 8:40 PM
Giancarlo Stanton raced home on the second wild pitch of the inning, pushing the Yankees’ lead to 3-0. The Guardians’ pitching miscues have been costly, and the Yankees aren’t letting those opportunities slip.
Yankees build on lead – 8:36 PM
Aaron Judge scored easily on a bases-loaded wild pitch from Joey Cantillo, extending the Yankees’ lead to 2-0. Stanton followed shortly after, crossing the plate on another wild pitch as the Yankees took full advantage of Cleveland’s errors.
Juan Soto homers to lead off third inning – 8:31
Juan Soto opened the scoring in Game 1 of the ALCS with a leadoff home run in the third inning, taking Alex Cobb deep to give the Yankees an early 1-0 advantage.
Taylor Swift attends Yankee Stadium – 8:30 PM

Off the field, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made an appearance at Yankee Stadium during Game 1 of the ALCS. TBS cameras caught the couple watching the game, briefly shifting attention away from the action. Their presence added a touch of star power to the night, but as the game remained scoreless, the focus quickly returned to the tension on the field between the Yankees and Guardians.
Rodon escapes early trouble
Carlos Rodon worked through a scoreless first inning despite a two-out double from Josh Naylor. The Yankees’ left-hander struck out Lane Thomas to leave the runner stranded at second base, showing calm and control in a potentially dangerous situation. After the inning, Rodon exchanged a few words with home plate umpire Mike Estabrook, possibly addressing the strike zone before heading to the dugout.
Through three innings, Rodon has continued to hold the Guardians’ offense at bay. Allowing just two baserunners, including a single from David Fry in the first, Rodon’s precise pitching has kept Cleveland from gaining any momentum. A key strikeout of Andres Gimenez to end the second inning further underscored Rodon’s dominant start as he stifles the Guardians’ offense.
Despite Rodon’s stellar performance, the Yankees have been unable to capitalize offensively. Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo both singled early, but the Yankees have stranded four runners through two innings. Guardians’ starter Alex Cobb escaped a first-inning jam by retiring Aaron Judge, Austin Wells, and Giancarlo Stanton. The tension escalated when Judge was called out on a controversial strike. Frustrated by the low pitch, Manager Aaron Boone voiced his displeasure, adding to the drama as the Yankees seek their breakthrough
Pre-Game
Rodon takes the mound against Cleveland
Carlos Rodon, starting for the Yankees, is tasked with facing a Guardians lineup led by veteran José Ramírez. Yankees manager Aaron Boone emphasized Ramírez’s talent before the game, calling him “the complete package” and lightheartedly expressing frustration over continued discussions about how underrated the Guardians star is.
“If I hear another ‘How underappreciated, underrated he is’ from somebody on a network or something, I want to rip my arms off and throw it at the TV,” Boone said.
Anthony Rizzo returns to action
First baseman Anthony Rizzo, who suffered fractures to his fingers late in the regular season, made his return to the Yankees’ lineup for Game 1. Batting eighth, Rizzo grounded out in his first at-bat but noted before the game that adrenaline would help him manage any lingering pain.
“The 50,000 fans, the adrenaline, and what’s at stake will outweigh anything,” Rizzo said.
