His defensive performance has also been subpar, with 12 errors—the most by any second baseman this season—and a missed grounder costing the Yankees a run on Tuesday. Additionally, his effort was questioned when he failed to run out a softly hit ground ball in the eighth inning, which could have been a close play had he run hard.
After the game, Gleyber Torres cited a groin issue that had previously forced him out of a game last week, saying it tightened up again. Manager Aaron Boone called Torres into his office for a discussion following the loss.
