Spring training buzz is in full swing as the Yankees release daily content on social media, captivating their passionate fanbase. But one particular image shared on Tuesday truly resonated with fans, generating even more excitement than usual.

The photo, captioned “Class is in session,” featured three legendary left-handed Yankees pitchers: Ron Guidry, Andy Pettitte, and CC Sabathia, posed together in the bullpen at Steinbrenner Field. These esteemed figures are familiar faces at Yankees spring training, often serving as guest instructors, sharing their wisdom and experience with the current pitching staff.

Are the Yankees preparing to give Andy Pettitte a bigger role?

While Pettitte, now an official advisor since last summer, usually joins for a limited time, fans are thrilled to hear he’ll have a more extended presence this year. This increased involvement from a beloved former player adds another layer of excitement to the early days of spring training.

Yankees fans received exciting news during Tuesday’s press conference, with manager Aaron Boone announcing the possibility of Andy Pettitte’s increased involvement for the 2024 season. As reported by SNY’s Andy Martino, Pettitte could be present with the team for 40-60 games, offering his vast experience and expertise to the pitching staff.

This extended commitment marks a significant step for Pettitte, a legendary figure in baseball history. While the Yankees already welcomed new veteran minds like hitting coaches James Rowson and Pat Roessler this offseason, Pettitte’s role occupies a unique space. Though not officially a coach, his unparalleled knowledge and experience make him an invaluable resource for all pitchers, from ace Gerrit Cole to aspiring prospects seeking to establish themselves in pinstripes.

Boone mentioned this summer, after Pettitte was officially brought on board by the club, that having him around more would be beneficial. He acknowledged Pettitte’s obligations back home and expressed openness to Pettitte joining the team on the road or at home whenever possible. Boone even joked about saving a seat for him on the plane whenever he wanted to join.
