Urias tags Cole, Keep the Good Times Rolling in 6-4 Victory
Ramón Uras hit a game-tying home run off Gerrit Cole in the sixth inning, and also the Baltimore Orioles held off Aaron Judge‘s 2 home runs to defeat the New York Yankees 6-4 on Monday.
Uras led off Baltimore’s four-run third inning, then broke a 4-all tie by lining a 0-1 fastball to the right field short porch off Cole (4-1).
Judge’s home run total now stands at 17, five more than Houston’s Yordan Alvarez and Angels star Mike Trout. Judge hit his 31st and 32nd career home runs against Baltimore pitching, connecting during the first and fifth innings against Jordan Lyles (3-4).
Six pitches in, Judge struck a solo home run into the left-center field bullpen of Baltimore. He then hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, 2 innings after Cole had given up 4 runs.
Cole came into the game with a 1.67 ERA in his past 5 starts, but he gave up a season-high five runs and seven hits in 8 innings. He struck out 11 batters, his 49th double-digit strikeout game in his career.
Robinson Chirinos drove with an RBI double, Austin Hays drove in two runs with a two-run single, and Ryan Mountcastle capped the third-inning rally with an RBI groundout.
Lyles, the latest Baltimore pitcher to be taken deep by Judge, lasted 6 2/3 innings and allowed 4 runs and 5 hits. Following Lyles’ season-high 117-pitch outing, Félix Bautista struck out Giancarlo Stanton with two outs after walking Judge.
It was the most pitches thrown by a Baltimore starter since Dylan Bundy threw 119 against Cleveland on May 17, 2019. Bautista also pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Jorge López recorded his fifth save.
Regarding a fielding error by shortstop Chris Owings, who dropped a throw to Mountcastle from the first on a force play, Jose Trevino struck an RBI single in the second for New York’s other run.
