With March underway, the Yankees have started trimming their spring roster, reducing the competition for Opening Day spots. On Saturday, the team announced their first set of cuts, reassigning six players to minor league camp.
Who’s out?

Right-handed pitchers Sean Boyle, Chase Hampton, Cristian Hernandez, and Kevin Stevens, along with left-hander Jayvien Sandridge and outfielder Brennen Davis, were the first players removed from major league camp.
Boyle was the standout performer among the group, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in two outings. Stevens also appeared in a game, throwing a scoreless inning. Hampton, one of the Yankees’ top pitching prospects, was cut following his Tommy John surgery, which will sideline him for the entire 2025 season and likely part of 2026.
Who’s still competing for a roster spot?

The Yankees have trimmed their spring camp after an initial round of cuts, leaving 65 players still vying for Opening Day spots—34 pitchers and 31 position players. Several key offseason acquisitions remain in camp and are expected to play major roles, including Paul Goldschmidt, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Cody Bellinger, Marcus Stroman, Devin Williams, and Max Fried.
With Giancarlo Stanton sidelined due to elbow issues and likely to start the season on the IL, a designated hitter vacancy has opened up, intensifying competition for bench roles. Below is a breakdown of the remaining players in camp, their positional battles, and standout performances as the Yankees move closer to Opening Day.
