When the Arizona Diamondbacks visited Yankee Stadium on Tuesday to play against the Yankees, it wasn’t just another regular-season game. The matchup turned into a reunion between Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll and Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe, who previously shared the field as teammates on the 2018 U18 USA National baseball team. But this wasn’t merely a player reunion—it extended warmly to their families as well.
Families reconnect after memorable game

After the Diamondbacks secured a 7-4 victory—highlighted by home runs from both Anthony Volpe and Carroll—the players’ parents commemorated the evening by capturing a memorable photo together. Corbin Carroll’s mother, Pey-Lin Carroll, shared the heartwarming snapshot on social media, celebrating the enduring friendship between the two families.
From gold medals to lasting friendships
Anthony Volpe and Carroll’s friendship dates back to their successful run with Team USA at the COPABE U-18 Pan-American Championship in Panama. While the tournament ended with gold medals around their necks, it was also infamous for an incident involving contaminated orange juice, which left many players battling stomach issues.
“It was the team joke,” Carroll humorously recalled in a 2022 interview with The Athletic. “Everyone who drank the orange juice at breakfast was definitely sick.”
Bonds beyond the ballpark
Their professional paths have continued to intersect. Both Anthony Volpe and Carroll reunited with other former teammates, including Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and Texas Rangers pitcher Jack Leiter, at the 2022 MLB Futures Game. This ongoing connection illustrates how baseball fosters lifelong friendships and memorable experiences.
Tuesday’s reunion, beautifully captured by Carroll’s mother, serves as a touching reminder of the deeper bonds that exist within baseball, connecting families and fans alike.
