The New York Yankees are ramping up their efforts to further strengthen their roster after acquiring Dominican superstar Juan Soto. According to MLB Network contributor Jon Heyman, a delegation from the Yankees is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles this week to meet with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a player who has been linked to the team for a considerable period.

Yankees contingent is flying tomorrow to LA to meet with coveted free agent RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, 25 . Every big market team is interested. Cost could hit $300M. It’s a long list but Mets and Dodgers are also seen as big players here.

The news didn’t come as a surprise to followers, as MLB Network’s Jon Paul Morosi had recently hinted that a meeting between the two parties was expected this week. Despite the addition of Soto, the Yankees are determined to pursue Yamamoto and are seriously considering his inclusion in the team’s plans. SNY’s Andy Martino revealed that, according to sources familiar with owner Hal Steinbrenner’s thinking, the Yankees are willing to surpass the $300 million mark in their payroll for the first time to secure Yamamoto’s services.

The Yankees’ interest in Yamamoto has been a recurring theme, and the possibility of his inclusion remains a priority for the team. Despite Soto‘s signing, the Yankees are committed to further strengthening their roster, and the meeting in Los Angeles this week underscores the seriousness of their interest in the promising player.

Yamamoto, on his part, has become a coveted target not only for the Yankees but also for other major league teams. Possible suitors include the Mets, Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Red Sox, Angels, and possibly several more teams. The competition for his services seems to be increasing, indicating the attractiveness and value that the Japanese pitcher holds in the free-agent market.

Soto’s move to the Yankees has not deterred their interest in Yamamoto at all. The Yankees are willing to make a significant investment to secure this talented Japanese pitcher, suggesting their confidence in the contribution he could make to the team in the future.

The meeting in Los Angeles not only represents a strategic step in negotiations between the Yankees and Yamamoto but also demonstrates the team’s determination in their quest for elite talent. The possibility of surpassing the $300 million mark in payroll reflects the Yankees’ commitment to building a competitive team that meets expectations and challenges in the upcoming MLB season.

In summary, the meeting between the Yankees and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Los Angeles this week marks a crucial chapter in the team’s quest to strengthen its roster with high-quality players. With Soto already in their ranks, the Yankees aim to secure Yamamoto and solidify their position as serious contenders in the upcoming MLB season.

Regardless of whether the Yankees get Yamamoto or not, this shows the Yankees are doing everything they can to improve their roster. They need to sign AT LEAST one top free agent starting pitcher and AT LEAST one top free agent relief pitcher. They also need 2 major league caliber backup infielders. Bringing back Isiah Kiner-Falefa would be preferable because of his versatility and ability to play the infield and outfield.

Bullpen has 8 guys, but some are coming off of injuries and others aren’t proven they can go more than 40 innings. Yankees could use another couple of live arms in there. it would be nice to bring back lefty Wandy Peralta.
