New York Yankees 0-5 Kansas City Royals

The Yankees fell to the Kansas City Royals as Seth Lugo’s commanding pitching and Salvador Perez’s clutch hitting led to a 5-0 defeat. Lugo struck out 10 batters over seven dominant innings, stifling the Yankees’ lineup. Perez contributed offensively with two RBI singles, reaching the 100-RBI mark for the second time in his career.

Offense Stymied in Loss to Royals

The Yankees faced a tough loss against the Kansas City Royals, highlighted by Tommy Pham’s home run and Bobby Witt Jr.’s RBI single. The Royals, entering the game 3.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central, held a 2.5-game lead over Minnesota for the second AL wild-card spot.

Despite leading the AL East by 1.5 games, the Yankees struggled against Royals’ pitcher Seth Lugo, who delivered an impressive performance. Lugo stifled the Yankees’ offense, allowing just three singles throughout the game. Gleyber Torres was the only Yankees player to reach base in the first six innings with a bloop hit, and he later broke a string of consecutive outs with another soft single in the sixth inning.

Yankees Fall to Royals in Shutout

The Royals’ pitching, anchored by Kris Bubic and John Schreiber, combined efforts to shut out the Yankees, limiting them to just three hits. Seth Lugo’s win tied him with Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal for the most victories in the majors.

Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman struggled against Lugo, surrendering three runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Batting ninth, Kyle Isbel was pivotal for the Royals, scoring twice after leading off with singles. This win ended the Royals’ six-game road losing streak and improved their season record to 2-4 against the Yankees.

The Yankees will wrap up their series against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, going up against All-Star left-hander Cole Ragans (11-9, 3.33 ERA). Ragans, who became the first Royals lefty to reach 200 strikeouts in a season, delivered an impressive six shutout innings against Minnesota last Friday.

The Yankees will respond with rookie right-hander Luis Gil (13-6, 3.24 ERA). Gil recently returned from a lower back strain and showed his form in his last start against the Chicago Cubs, where he pitched six innings of one-hit ball, securing a 3-0 win for the Yankees at Wrigley Field.
