New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham’s early exit from the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Texas Rangers has sparked concerns about his health and availability for the team moving forward.
What happened
Trent Grisham left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning at Yankee Stadium after being hit on the left hand by a 96.3-mph fastball from Rangers left-hander Brock Burke. The impact caused Grisham to drop his bat and wince in pain, prompting immediate concern from the Yankees’ dugout. Manager Aaron Boone and a team trainer rushed to his side as he stood near home plate, assessing the injury.
Despite the clear discomfort, Trent Grisham opted to stay in the game temporarily, taking his place on the bases and eventually coming around to score. However, his pain was evident, and when the fifth inning began, Grisham did not return to center field. Instead, Oswaldo Cabrera, who had been on the bench, was called in to play third base, with third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. shifting to center field to cover Grisham’s position.
The Yankees later announced that Trent Grisham had suffered a left-hand contusion. Initial tests, including X-rays and a CT scan, came back negative, which was a relief for the Yankees as they avoided what could have been a more serious injury.
Trent Grisham, typically a fourth outfielder, was playing center field in this game as Aaron Judge was given the designated hitter role.
As of now, the team has not provided any further updates on Trent Grisham’s condition or his availability for upcoming games. His status will likely be monitored closely in the coming days as the Yankees look to maintain their roster depth during the critical stretch of the season. Grisham’s injury adds to the list of concerns for the Yankees, who are already managing various player health issues as they continue to battle for playoff positioning.
