The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team from The Bronx, New York. They are one of the most successful sports teams in the world and one of the two Major League Baseball teams in New York City. The other is the New York Mets. They have won 27 World Series titles and 40 pennants, which are both records in the MLB. Eleven of their managers and 44 of their players are in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. No matter how you feel about them, whether you love them or hate them, the Yankees are an iconic team.

In 1901, the Baltimore Orioles, not to be confused with the Baltimore Orioles of today, moved to New York City and changed their name to the New York Highlanders. The team’s name was changed to the New York Yankees in 1913, and it stayed that way.

In the 1920s, the Boston Red Sox traded several players to the New York Yankees. One of these players was the legendary Babe Ruth. After trading away such a valuable player, the Red Sox never won another World Series for the next 86 years. This bad luck became known as “The Curse of the Bambino.”

By 1923, the Yankees had their own stadium, Yankee Stadium, which many call “the Stadium that Babe Ruth build” for his immense contribution to the Yankees’ finance and surging crowds at the ballpark. The first game at the ballpark witnessed a massive home run by Babe Ruth hit a home run (which was fitting as his success was largely what paid for the new stadium). In 1927, the team’s starting lineup was called “The Murderers Row,” and many people would argue that it was the best lineup in the history of the sport. In 1932, the Yankees again rose to prominence and won 13 World Series titles in the next 20 years.

American Football Wiki

After Babe Ruth left the team, Joe DiMaggio became the new star. With DiMaggio, they won the World Series four times in a row from 1936 to 1939.

But when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, many of the team’s best players, including Joe DiMaggio and Yogi Berra, joined the military. Even though they won the World Series in 1943, the years after that were some of their worst. Casey Stengel took over as manager in 1948, and over the next five years, the Yankees won five straight World Series, which is still an MLB record.

When CBS bought the team in 1964, it was the first time that they didn’t seem to be able to replace their star players when they retired. But in 1973, the ownership went to George Steinbrenner, who was desperate to rebuild the team and turn the tide. He acquired some big players but they had both good and bad seasons. By 1981, it had been the longest time since 1920 that they hadn’t.

The team did well again in the 1990s and 2000s. The 1998 Yankees were again thought to be one of the best baseball teams ever, and they won the World Series that same year. The 2000s were a good decade for them, and they are still at the top of the league today.

The Yankees are now worth more than $2 billion, making them the most valuable sports team in the U.S., and their fans are still some of the most passionate and loyal people anywhere.
