Giancarlo Stanton, a star for the New York Yankees, is still working to get back on the field after hurting his Achilles and missing nearly two months of games.
The manager of the Yankees, Aaron Boone, told reporters on Friday that the former Most Valuable Player of the National League has a “full baseball day” of activities planned at Yankee Stadium, but he has not yet run the bases and there is no set schedule for when he will return to game action.
As Boone pointed out, Stanton may have to participate in some rehabilitation games before the Yankees can take him off the injured list.
Stanton was put on the 10-day injured list on June 26 because he had Achilles tendinitis. At the time, Boone told reporters at the time that his star hitter had asked for an MRI because he was in pain, and the first estimate for when he would be back was two to three weeks.
Stanton went on the IL for the second time this season because of his Achilles. From May 25 to June 3, he missed 10 games because of a strained calf.
Stanton has had trouble with injuries throughout his time in the MLB. In each of the last three seasons, the 2017 National League MVP has missed at least 23 games. In 13 years, he has only played more than 140 games four times.
When he has been able to play, Stanton has been one of the best power hitters in the sport. This season, the 32-year-old has hit.228, .309, and.498 with 24 home runs in 289 at-bats.
The Yankees are in charge right now, even though they have been having trouble as of late. With a record of 71-41, they are now behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (77-33) and the Houston Astros (72-41), but they still have a 10-game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East.
The Yankees have enough of a lead in their division to take their time with Stanton’s return and make sure he’s ready to go.
