Burglars broke into the houses of Domingo German and Luis Severino Hillsborough County, northwest of Tampa, and decamped with valuables and cash worth $320,000. The Tampa Bay Times cited county officials to report that the incident occurred when they had home games in New York during the regular season last year.
Four thieves allegedly took “multiple purses and watch worth about $20,000” from Domingo German’s home in Thonotosassa, which is about 15 miles northeast of Tampa, on August 19, according to an affidavit that the news outlet cited.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed the suspects leaving the home of Domingo German in a Penske rental vehicle while wearing masks, gloves, and hoods.
Hillsborough police officials said this was “similar to another residential burglary” that happened at Luis Severino’s house on June 1 and 3. Jewelry and other items worth more than $300,000 were taken from Luis Severino’s home in Tarpon Springs, which is about 30 miles northwest of Tampa.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, an affidavit for a search warrant shows that the same person broke into both homes.
“Based on the multiple links between the Hillsborough County burglary of Domingo German’s residence and the Pinellas County burglary of Luis Severino’s residence … it is likely the burglaries were committed by the same group of suspects,” the warrant said.
Since 2015, Luis Severino, who is 29, has been a pitcher for the Yankees, while Domingo German, who is 30, joined the team in 2017.
The Yankees have their annual spring training camp at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
