Somerset Patriots outfielder Spencer Jones and former Yankees catcher Agustin Ramirez have been named to the 2024 Double-A Eastern League All-Star Team after standout seasons. Jones, the Yankees’ top minor league prospect, finished with 17 home runs, 78 RBIs, 125 hits, 30 doubles, and 25 stolen bases over 122 games, while Ramirez posted a .942 OPS before being traded to the Miami Marlins in June.
Call-up speculation builds
Spencer Jones‘ .259/.336/.452 line, along with his ranking among Eastern League leaders in doubles, RBIs, and total bases, solidified his status as a key player in the Yankees farm system. Despite rumors of a potential opportunity for playing time this year, Spencer Jones has remained in the minors, where he was named MiLB Eastern League Player of the Week three times and earned a spot in the All-Star Futures Game.
Ramirez slashed .289/.372/.570 before his promotion to Triple-A. The Yankees moved him in the deal for Jazz Chisholm, a strategic trade that shifted Ramirez’s future to the Marlins. However, he remains on the radar for a potential MLB debut next season, especially with Miami’s need for depth.
Will 2025 be their year?
Despite their success in Double-A, both Jones and Agustin Ramirez face uncertain paths to the majors. Jones was once expected to debut in 2024, but with the Yankees contending for the World Series, a major call-up remains in question. His exclusion from the 40-man roster also limits his eligibility for postseason play.
Ramirez may get his opportunity in 2025, though his chances depend on roster moves and spring training performances.
As Yankees fans anticipate potential roster shakeups this offseason, Jones and Ramirez will likely get extended time in the minors next year, with the possibility of a midseason call-up if their strong performances continue.
