Matt Carpenter is possibly out for the season due to a broken left foot suffered from a foul ball in Monday against Mariners, so Yankees need some players to compensate for the production that Carpenter provide.
On Tuesday, Miguel Andujar recalled from Triple-A by the team to fill Carpenter’s place on the roster.
Andujar has been productive for SWB this season, but since 2018, he has not had consistent success in the majors.
Carpenter provided some power with his left-hand after regaining his swing and after his contract expired with the Cardinals a minor league deal was signed with the Rangers.
Carpenter had 15 HR in 47 games before suffering the injury. The 15 HR rank fourth on the Yankees, and his OPS is second only to Aaron Judge.
Andujar has 12 HR with SWB but since 2019, only 7 home runs with the Yankees in 92 games.
