In the buildup to Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets, the New York Yankees have made a significant tweak in their starting lineup. Oswaldo Cabrera is now set to start ahead of the injured Gleyber Torres.
Gleyber Torres is coming off the back off criticism after he failed to move for an infield ground ball during Tuesday’s loss. The 27-year-old has now revealed he is facing some discomfort in his right groin. While the decision to bench him may be because of his injury, it also sums up an underwhelming season for him so far by his own standards.

Struggling with a .215/.294/.333 slash line, Gleyber Torres, 27, has hit seven home runs and driven in 29 runs with an 83 wRC+. Despite being in a contract year and eyeing a lucrative deal after 2024, his numbers have markedly declined.
Oswaldo Cabrera steps in

Replacing Gleyber Torres at second base, Oswaldo Cabrera enters with a .237/.273/.344 batting line, tallying five home runs and 25 RBIs with a 78 wRC+. Though he has only managed two hits in his last three games, his recent outing against Atlanta included two hits and two RBIs.
While defensive concerns persist, Gleyber Torres has struggled with -4 defensive runs saved this season, highlighted by Tuesday’s missed ground ball. Cabrera, perceived as a fresher option, may bolster the team’s defense and overall dynamics.
