At 6-foot-7 and 235 pounds, Yankees outfield prospect Spencer Jones can’t help but draw comparisons to the team’s reigning MVP, Aaron Judge. This spring training, he had the chance to share the field with Judge, and the experience left a lasting impression.
Speaking to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, Spencer Jones revealed his admiration for Judge’s demeanor, calling it “the coolest thing ever.” He was particularly impressed by Judge’s approachability and inclusivity, regardless of a player’s status within the organization. Kuty highlighted how Judge makes a point to greet everyone warmly, even participating in drills with minor leaguers before official practices begin.
“He doesn’t care who you are, what you know or what your role in the organization is,” the rookie said about Judge. “He’s always going to come up and say hi. That was evident on the minor-league side even before camp started and guys were running around. He’s out there running drills with us, talking with us, just like we’re his teammates. That means a lot to a lot of the younger guys, just getting that sense of comfort and having somebody like that to lead the team is obviously ahead of a lot of other places. It’s pretty special.”

For Jones, Judge’s supportive attitude creates a welcoming environment for younger players like himself. He views Judge’s leadership as both exceptional and a valuable asset to the team’s dynamic.
Spencer Jones is another Judge in the making
The 22-year-old prospect didn’t just watch and learn during spring training. Spencer Jones turned heads with a stellar performance in Grapefruit League games, batting an impressive .444 with a home run and four RBIs. This strong showing reinforces his ranking as the Yankees’ No. 2 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Spencer Jones began the 2023 season at High-A Hudson Valley before earning a promotion to Double-A Somerset. Across 117 games at both levels, he compiled a solid .267/.336/.444 batting line with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs.
Looking ahead, Spencer Jones is slated to begin the upcoming season back at Double-A Somerset, continuing his development within the Yankees organization. With his impressive spring performance and Judge’s leadership serving as inspiration, Spencer Jones seems poised to make a significant impact this season as he progresses through the minors.
