NEW YORK — Carlos Rodon flirted with history on Monday night, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the New York Yankees finished off a commanding 9-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium. The left-hander allowed just one hit in seven innings, teaming with relievers Tim Hill and Yerry De Los Santos for the club’s first one-hitter of the 2025 season.
Austin Martin’s single to lead off the game turned out to be Minnesota’s only hit. From there, Carlos Rodon locked in, retiring 20 of the next 21 batters and flashing the dominant form that has defined his best years in the majors.
Rodon settles after rocky first inning

The night began with trouble for Rodon. After Martin’s hit, he walked Byron Buxton and hit Ryan Jeffers to load the bases with no outs. The Twins pushed across their lone run on a Royce Lewis fielder’s choice that scored Martin.
That was all Minnesota would get. Rodon fanned Kody Clemens to end the frame and never looked back. Over the next six innings, he pounded the strike zone, keeping Twins hitters off balance with sharp fastballs and off-speed pitches.
Rodon finished his outing with 96 pitches, allowing one run on one hit, striking out five and walking two. After the tense opening, he needed only 65 pitches to breeze through the final six innings. It marked his longest start since July 11 against the Chicago Cubs and improved his season record to 12-7 with a 3.25 ERA.
Bullpen locks down the one-hitter
Hill took over in the eighth and was perfect in his assignment. The veteran lefty needed just nine pitches, eight for strikes, to retire all three batters he faced, preserving the one-hit bid.
In the ninth, De Los Santos sealed the win in emphatic fashion. The right-hander struck out two of the three batters he faced, needing only 11 pitches to close the door and cement one of the Yankees’ most dominant pitching efforts of the year.
Stanton, Judge and Volpe fuel offensive burst

While Rodon was silencing the Twins, the Yankees lineup delivered plenty of support. Giancarlo Stanton led the way, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs, his first four-hit game since August 24, 2023. He launched a 447-foot home run in the fifth inning that left the left-field seats buzzing.
Aaron Judge ended a rare power drought with a 425-foot shot of his own, his first homer since July 23. The captain’s second-inning blast erased Minnesota’s early lead and put New York ahead 2-1.
Anthony Volpe provided the knockout blow later that inning. His three-run homer broke a 1-1 tie, giving the Yankees a cushion that allowed Rodon to attack hitters without hesitation.
Yankees keep streak alive against Minnesota
The win extended New York’s dominance over Minnesota to nine straight games. During that run, the Yankees have outscored the Twins by wide margins, often combining strong pitching with timely power.
For a team chasing ground in the American League wild-card race — they entered Monday 9.5 games back — such convincing victories are vital to keeping postseason hopes alive.
Rare milestone for franchise
The performance was the Yankees’ second no-hitter of the year, after they blanked the Baltimore Orioles in a 9-0 one-hit win on June 21, 2025, in a combined effort.
Rodon is no stranger to milestones. On April 14, 2021, while pitching for the Chicago White Sox, he threw a no-hitter against Cleveland. That experience showed Monday as he calmly handled the pressure of carrying another no-hit bid deep into the game.
Beyond the historical note, Rodon’s seven innings gave a taxed bullpen a much-needed breather. With relievers logging heavy innings throughout the season, his deep start could have ripple effects in the days ahead.
Complete effort lifts Yankees
The combination of elite starting pitching, airtight relief, and explosive offense provided the blueprint the Yankees need to follow as the season heads toward its final weeks. If they can string together more nights like Monday, their push for October baseball will be alive until the very end.
