The Yankees‘ return to the Bronx has been met with more cold, wet weather.
Friday night’s series opener between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants at Yankee Stadium has been delayed due to rain. First pitch is now scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, 25 minutes later than originally planned.
The tarp was on the field well before game time, as forecasts called for a 63% chance of rain and strong winds around 7 p.m., increasing to 83% from 8 p.m. through late evening, according to Accuweather.
Despite the weather concerns, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team remained “optimistic” the game would be played. The club announced at 3:50 p.m. that gates would open on time at 5:30 p.m. but noted they would “continue to monitor the approaching weather and provide updates.”
This marks the first meeting between the Yankees (7-5) and Giants (9-3) this season. New York is looking to rebound after a chilly six-game road trip that ended with three straight losses. San Francisco, despite a hot start to the year, is coming off a series loss to the Reds.
Pitching matchup

Marcus Stroman (0-0, 7.27 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees, while the Giants counter with Robbie Ray (2-0, 3.18 ERA). Both pitchers enter the matchup with six strikeouts apiece.
Recent form

The Yankees are 4-2 at home this season and 5-1 in games when they hit at least two home runs. Aaron Judge has led the charge offensively with six homers and nine extra-base hits. Ben Rice, too, has stayed hot, going 11-for-36 with three home runs and four RBIs in his last 10 games.
San Francisco is 5-1 on the road and has not allowed a home run in four of its nine wins. Wilmer Flores leads the team with five long balls, while Jung Hoo Lee has impressed with seven doubles and 15 hits in his last 10 games.
Injury updates
The Yankees remain without several key contributors, including Giancarlo Stanton (elbow), DJ LeMahieu (calf), Gerrit Cole (elbow), and Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow). The Giants are missing Tom Murphy (back) and Jerar Encarnacion (finger).
We’ll continue to monitor the weather and provide updates on the status of tonight’s game.
