New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes is savoring the delights of the offseason, relishing festive moments with family and friends. A recent highlight was a joyful encounter with Puerto Rican rap sensation Myke Towers during the December holidays.
What happened?
While Cortes himself originates from Cuba, his wife Alondra proudly embraces her Puerto Rican roots. Their shared love for music and vibrant spirits were evident as they enjoyed a delightful reunion with their good friend Towers. It was a heartwarming scene of friendship and celebration during a well-deserved break.
Beyond the joy of the moment, Cortes and Alondra have a beautiful love story to commemorate. Their romance began on November 24, 2015, and flourished for nearly seven years before Cortes proposed during All-Star week in 2022. Sealing their union in a beautiful ceremony on November 25, 2023, they exchanged vows surrounded by some of Cortes’ Yankees teammates.
As Cortes relishes this time off, he can reflect on both personal triumphs and professional successes. Having solidified his role as a key pitcher for the Bronx Bombers, showcasing his distinctive pitching style and infectious personality, Cortes is well-positioned for even greater achievements in the seasons to come, supported by his loving wife and a close-knit team.
From Late-Round Pick to Bronx Bombers
Nestor Cortes’ journey to success in Major League Baseball is a testament to perseverance and overcoming the odds. Drafted by the Yankees in the 36th round in 2013, Cortes navigated a path that led him through Baltimore, Seattle, and eventually back to the Bronx.
His Major League debut came in 2018 with the Orioles. After a brief stint with the Mariners in 2020, Cortes returned to the Yankees in 2021, where he found his stride. In 2022, his dedication and unique pitching style earned him a well-deserved All-Star selection.
Over his six-season career, Cortes has accumulated impressive statistics, including 413 strikeouts and a 24-11 record. His consistent 3.82 ERA across 393.2 innings pitched showcases his ability to limit damage and maintain performance.
The 2023 season was unfortunately cut short for Cortes due to a shoulder injury. Despite the setback, he managed 67 strikeouts and 20 walks in 63.1 innings over 12 games, serving as a bittersweet reminder of his potential as the Yankees fell short of the playoffs.
Looking ahead, Cortes’ future with the Bronx Bombers remains promising. His unwavering spirit, coupled with his talent and experience, positions him as a valuable asset to their rotation. As he undergoes recovery and hones his craft, Cortes is poised to contribute even more chapters to his inspiring baseball story.
