The New York Yankees have initiated discussions with the agents representing Isiah Kiner-Falefa, a versatile infielder/outfielder currently exploring free agency. Kiner-Falefa, having showcased his skills by batting .242/.306/.340 (78 OPS+) in the previous season while demonstrating remarkable flexibility across seven different positions, including pitching, has garnered attention from several interested teams.
As reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the ex-Yankees utility player is attracting attention from approximately 12 teams, and among them are the Yankees themselves. This marks the first time in his career that Kiner-Falefa is exploring free agency. The Blue Jays are among the top contenders for him.
Kiner-Falefa shined in Yankees’ dismal 2023 season

At the age of 28, he joined the New York team ahead of the 2022 season as part of the trade involving Josh Donaldson and Gary Sanchez. In the time that has passed, Kiner-Falefa has posted a batting average of .253 with a .643 OPS, hitting 10 home runs, driving in 85 runs, and stealing 36 bases for the Yankees. Notably, he showcased his versatility by playing six different positions, even contributing as a pitcher for four innings. This adaptability has garnered recognition and appreciation throughout the industry.
Following the conclusion of the Yankees‘ 2023 season in October, Kiner-Falefa conveyed his eagerness to return to the team in pinstripes.
He expressed that he does want to be back, but clarified that it’s not within his decision-making purview. He mentioned a willingness to see how things unfold and expressed openness to exploring available options. He added that the upcoming process is anticipated to be enjoyable and exciting.
