The 2022 offseason witnessed a high-voltage bidding drama between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants to sign Aaron Judge. This is likely to be revisited as another Yankees’ superstar slugger Juan Soto is going to be a free agent this offseason.

MLB analyst Jon Heyman recently weighed in on possible free agency destinations for Yankees outfielder Juan Soto, listing the Giants as the fourth most likely team to land the star player. He pointed out that the San Francisco team has consistently pursued big-name talent in recent years, pushing strong for players like Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Bryce Harper.

While Heyman acknowledged the challenges the Giants face, particularly due to their pitcher-friendly ballpark, he still considers them a serious contender for Juan Soto. He noted that San Francisco’s prior interest in trading for Juan Soto underscores their ongoing determination to secure a marquee bat and this is likey to repeat the 2022 bidding battle.

The Giants have long sought to add a star hitter to their lineup, a quest that dates back to the Barry Bonds era. Despite their success in cultivating pitching talent, the team has struggled offensively, especially this season. Heliot Ramos currently leads the Giants with just 53 RBIs, in stark contrast to Juan Soto’s 83 RBIs for the Yankees.

At 25, Juan Soto is in the midst of one of his best seasons and is poised to become one of the most sought-after free agents. As a four-time All-Star, he is expected to command a record-breaking contract, with industry insiders predicting a deal in the range of 12 years and $482.5 million, reflecting his rare blend of youth and elite performance.

However, the Giants may face obstacles in their pursuit of Juan Soto. Oracle Park’s reputation as a challenging environment for hitters could be a deterrent for power bats. Additionally, the team may need to address concerns related to recent economic and social issues in San Francisco.

Despite these challenges, the prospect of Juan Soto launching home runs into McCovey Cove and helping restore the Giants to National League prominence remains a tantalizing possibility for the team’s fans.

Is Judge’s contract a headache for Yankees’ Juan Soto deal?

Sports radio personality Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo recently delved into the uncertainty surrounding Juan Soto’s future with the New York Yankees during a segment on WFAN. Russo highlighted the slugger’s significant role in the Yankees‘ success this season, particularly in reducing the burden on Aaron Judge and helping the team secure the top spot in the American League East.

However, Russo emphasized the looming challenge for the Yankees’ front office as Soto approaches free agency at season’s end. He speculated that Soto, represented by high-profile agent Scott Boras, could be eyeing a contract in the range of $600 million.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see what they do with Soto, because Judge is making whatever he is making and Soto, who is represented by Boras is going to want $600 million, and if you’re Steinbrenner, can you pay him that much more than you pay Judge?,” he said, “The Yankees can’t lose him, but it’s a little tricky with Judge being your guy at $360 million and Soto is going to want Ohtani money.”

Russo questioned whether Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner would be willing to offer Juan Soto a deal that significantly surpasses Judge’s current contract, considering Judge’s pivotal role as team captain and his immense value to the franchise. Russo pointed out the fine line the Yankees must tread, recognizing that while they can’t afford to lose Juan Soto, his potential salary demands could present a major hurdle.

Drawing parallels to Shohei Ohtani’s recent record-breaking contract, Russo suggested that Juan Soto might be targeting a similar financial package. He noted the complexity of the situation, with Judge already under a $360 million deal and Soto likely seeking even more.

Despite the impending contract negotiations, Russo praised Juan Soto’s professionalism and focus on the present season’s goals. He speculated that while the contract discussions could become a distraction, Soto is expected to stay dedicated to the Yankees’ pursuit of a World Series title this season.

Juan Soto, one of MLB’s most coveted talents, poses extraordinary skills and youthful potential making him a franchise-defining player for whichever team secures him.

Heyman identified the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets as the leading contenders in the pursuit of Juan Soto. He speculated that these two heavyweights might engage in a fierce bidding war for the star outfielder, with the Mets and Dodgers emerging as the top suitors ahead of the offseason.

Juan Soto is likely to attract broad interest throughout the league. As the season advances, the focus is increasingly shifting toward his future. His decision will be one of the most closely watched events in the upcoming free agency, with the potential to reshape the competitive balance in Major League Baseball.

The baseball world is keenly awaiting Juan Soto’s next step, understanding that his choice significantly impacts the league’s landscape. While many teams will vie for his talents, where the slugger ultimately lands remains a topic of intense speculation and anticipation.
