Despite the New York Yankees dropping their second game in a row on Wednesday, Juan Soto stood out for the Yankees on a day when few others made an impact.
Juan Soto’s homer sparks Yankees
The Yankees hosted the Orioles, looking to close the gap with only one win needed to clinch the AL East, and Juan Soto was easily the Yankees’ best player. His big moment came in the fifth inning when he launched a two-run homer—his 41st of the season—cutting Baltimore’s lead to 8-3.
With New York down 8-1, Juan Soto’s blast injected some life into a game that was quickly getting out of hand. But despite his efforts, the Yankees still fell 9-7.
Juan Soto continues to show his ability to make an impact, even when the Bronx Bombers are struggling. The team, however, faces a tough climb with Baltimore’s offense showing no signs of slowing down.
Juan Soto’s 41st home run of the season also came with an interesting milestone. His 201 career homers now tie him with fellow countryman Albert Pujols for sixth place on the list of most home runs before the age of 26. He’s only behind legends like:
- Jimmie Foxx: 222 home runs
- Eddie Mathews: 222 home runs
- Alex Rodriguez: 216 home runs
- Mel Ott: 211 home runs
- Mickey Mantle: 207 home runs
Marcus Stroman’s rough start in the first inning put New York in an early hole, and although Juan Soto tried to spark a comeback, Aaron Judge added his 57th homer of the season. However, the Yankees couldn’t close the gap. Contributions from key players like Jasson Dominguez were lacking, as he managed just three at-bats in the loss.
