Juan Soto’s looming free agency has been a hot topic across baseball, even before he played his first game in pinstripes. As the regular season winds down, speculation about the slugger’s offseason plans has only intensified, driven by his standout performance in his first year with the Yankees.

Juan Soto admitted the Yankees have made him feel welcome, but he remained cautious about his future. He acknowledged that while he is comfortable in New York, he’s aware that other opportunities will arise in free agency, and he’s not closing the door on any possibilities just yet.

When asked about the possibility of making New York his long-term home, Juan Soto responded thoughtfully. He praised the warm reception he’s received, his smooth adjustment to the high-pressure New York market, and the unique team atmosphere he’s found in the Yankees’ clubhouse. He also recognized the team’s potential for a deep postseason run.

“I can’t lie, they’ve made me feel like home,” the outfielder said. “But of course, there are options. You never rule out any team. I’ve felt very comfortable since I got here, and we really have to wait and see what happens in free agency. But yes, I’ve felt really comfortable where I am right now.”

His measured response, marked by a smile and a brief pause, suggested that his decision this offseason will involve careful consideration of all his options. While Soto is clearly content with his current situation, he left the door open, making it clear that his plans for free agency remain undecided.

Juan Soto has quickly cemented his place among the American League’s elite, ranking near the top in OPS, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. He’s also closing in on a personal milestone, approaching 40 home runs for the first time in his career.

Juan Soto concedes to Yankees’ clout

While pursuing the championship aspirations, Juan Soto expressed satisfaction with his time in New York. He highlighted the strong bonds he’s built with his teammates, noting that those relationships have been a key part of his positive experience with the team.

“My expectation is winning a championship, so we’re not there yet,” the Yankees slugger said. “But without a doubt, I’ve been happy with the organization, how they’ve made me feel. I think what’s been most important is how I’ve felt with my teammates. They’ve been the main ingredient in making me feel comfortable here and enjoying every moment. But we still have to meet that one expectation — winning a championship. That’s No. 1.”

Juan Soto made it clear that while he values the camaraderie and success he’s found individually, his primary focus remains on winning. For him, lifting a championship trophy is the ultimate goal and the true measure of success in his debut season with the Yankees.

Juan Soto has openly enjoyed the chemistry he’s built with Aaron Judge in the Yankees’ outfield, a partnership that has drawn attention both on and off the field. Judge, the favorite for the AL MVP, has reciprocated Juan Soto’s admiration, even joining in on “Sign Soto!” chants that recently echoed throughout Yankee Stadium.

Soto spoke fondly of his interactions with Judge, highlighting how his teammate often points out the crowd’s vocal support. He acknowledged hearing the fans and described the fun and positive environment that has made playing alongside Judge enjoyable.

“Aaron is a tremendous teammate. He always gives me some sort of gesture to listen to what they’re yelling,” he said on Thursday. “At the end of the day, I let him know that I definitely hear it. But we always try to have fun with what we do out there.”

The 25-year-old slugger has largely lived up to the lofty expectations set by the Yankees and their fans. However, when asked if the team had met his own expectations, Juan Soto remained focused on the ultimate prize—a championship. He acknowledged that the Yankees have yet to achieve that goal.
