So far, Montgomery‘s work in The Lou looks great. In his three starts there, he has an ERA of 0.54 and a WHIP of 0.90 over 16.2 innings. In stark contrast to his time in the Bronx, he has won all three games he has played in the National League. One of those wins came against the Yankees during a mudslide.

All of this means that Harrison Bader could be one of the most important players the Yankees have ever gotten, especially since Aaron Hicks is so useless that he has the worst WPA added of any MLB player this season. He might be the worst player in the game.

But Bader is still out with an injury, while Montgomery keeps getting praise in the senior circuit. This makes the 6-6 left-hander feel a certain way… Especially since the way his departure was talked about made it sound like the Yankees were glad to get rid of him.

It looks like Jordan Montgomery is happier with the Cardinals than the Yankees.

Montgomery said that the problems he had with the Mets and Royals could have been easily fixed, and he did just that as soon as he got to St. Louis. He didn’t care if the Yankees didn’t think he was good enough to be their No. 4. He moved on to a team that always needs smart left-handed players, and it looks like they got another good one.

Surprisingly, Monty isn’t the only left-handed player the Yankees traded away at the trade deadline who is doing well elsewhere.

JP Sears has also done well in his first two starts with the A’s. Hayden Wesneski has had trouble in the Cubs’ system as a prospect, but Ken Waldichuk has hit the ground running with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Maybe being a left-handed pitcher with a good fastball and breaking pitches helps you figure it all out as soon as you take off your pinstripes.

Even at his worst, Montgomery would have been good insurance for the Yankees down the stretch. It would have been better to leave the cupboard empty than to not have any insurance. They didn’t figure that out in time or come up with a plan B in case the Marlins changed their minds.
