Jordan Montgomery, currently a free agent, is garnering attention from multiple teams as reported by MLB.com. According to Jim Bowden, a journalist with MLB.com, Jordan Montgomery has received long-term contract offers from two teams, marking a significant development in his market as it becomes increasingly competitive just days before Opening Day.

The Jordan Montgomery sweepstakes is turning into a full-blown frenzy, with teams across the league reportedly lining up for a shot at the free agent lefty. Every franchise from the high-rollers to the penny-pinchers has been rumored to be sniffing around, which obviously just means Montgomery’s agent Scott Boras is working his magic.

Well, Boras has worked his magic on everyone except actually getting Montgomery inked to a deal so far. Former MLB GM Jim Bowden is the latest to stir the rumor pot, tweeting that the D-Backs and new-look Orioles could make a play, with contenders like the Phillies, Yanks, and Astros also potential suitors after injury blows to their rotations.

The dark horse O’s adding Montgomery would be a power move in the AL East arms race. But when Boras is the puppetmaster, you gotta take any “leaked” interested teams with a boulder of salt. Originally, the southpaw was supposedly gunning for a 7-year, $172 million megadeal on par with Aaron Nola’s contract. But have his demands plummeted like other recent Boras clients who had to settle for shorter pacts?

Bowden suggests that a signing is imminent, likely to occur within the week. While the specific teams extending offers remain undisclosed, Bowden notes the continued involvement of the Yankees and Red Sox to some extent. Additionally, he highlights the Orioles and D-backs as teams to monitor in the bidding process.

Jordan Montgomery, known for his postseason prowess and recent World Series triumph with the Rangers, has demonstrated durability by logging over 180 innings in each of the past two seasons. With several playoff contenders grappling with injuries to their starting rotations, the 31-year-old southpaw’s reliability holds significant appeal in the current market.

Contrary to initial expectations of a short-term deal akin to those secured by Blake Snell and Cody Bellinger, Bowden suggests Montgomery may command a longer commitment from interested parties.

The recent signing of Blake Snell by the Giants has prompted speculation about Montgomery’s potential landing with the Yankees. With ace Gerrit Cole sidelined due to injury and concerns over the durability of other pitchers like Carlos Rodón and Nestor Cortes, New York finds itself in need of bolstering its rotation depth.

Drafted by the Yankees in 2014, Montgomery has spent the bulk of his career with the team, also making contributions to the Cardinals and the Rangers, including aiding Texas in securing its inaugural World Series title last season. This high-stakes Montgomery auction is just heating up.

  1. The Red Sox. Do not underestimate them in all this. His wife is in Boston for her multi year residency. Never underestimate the power of getting paid well and being able to sleep in the same bed with your wife under their circumstances.

Cashman, Blake, and the Yankees pitching philosophy is something the Yankees have to overcome. is there an amount of money they can offer Monty to make him overlook everything?
