During his brief stint with the New York Yankees, Joey Gallo did not have many big hits, but he had a big moment in Wednesday 8-5 win for the Dodgers over the Minnesota Twins in Los Angeles.
With runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh inning and the Dodgers holding a 5-4 lead, for Hanser Alberto the manager called on Gallo to pinch hit.
The 28-year-old followed that up with a 3 run HR off right-handed reliever Griffin Jax, bringing in Trea Turner, who had doubled, and Will Smith, who had walked.
As a Dodger Gallo’s homer was his first and its his 13th of this season. Gallo has only 27 RBIs this season, and still hitting .162, but has improved since moving to Los Angeles.
Gallo is hitting .214 with 8 strikeouts in 5 games with the Dodgers. While he isn’t ripping the cover off the ball, he is putting up better numbers than what he did with the Yankees this season.
Gallo appeared in 82 games for Yankees this season and hit .159 with 106 strikeouts in 273 at-bats.
