Jasson Dominguez continues to excel during his extended rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, playing nine innings in center field for the first time since returning from Tommy John surgery last year. The Martian was only taken out in the 10th inning, adding four hits, including a home run, to his impressive tally.
Despite his standout performance, there is no immediate spot for Dominguez to play regularly with the Yankees, especially with Juan Soto‘s potential return as soon as Monday against the Royals. Manager Aaron Boone recognized Dominguez’s talent and potential impact but emphasized that the team would not rush his promotion.
Boone stated that the rookie would need an everyday role if called up, indicating that a clear path to regular playing time would be essential. On Tuesday, his 20-day rehab assignment was extended by 10 days, and he was moved from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Jasson Dominguez tearing up in rehab
In his last eight games in Double-A, Dominguez went 12-for-30 with four homers and a 1.219 OPS, bringing his total to six home runs in 19 minor league games this season. Somerset manager Raul commended the center fielder’s fearless approach, noting his natural swing, hard hits, and pre-batting practice throws as if he hadn’t missed a beat.
Last season, Dominguez played only eight games for the Yankees but made a significant impression, hitting four home runs and posting a .980 OPS. As he continues to perform well in his rehab assignment, the Yankees will closely monitor his progress to determine the right time for his return to the major league roster.
