An hour before the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox face off for their second clash, Gerrit Cole will be among the fans at Fenway Park, engaged in discussions about his future and return to the Yankees’ rotation.

When asked if the upcoming series against the Orioles influences his decision, Gerrit Cole seemed caught off guard. “I don’t know. I hadn’t considered it, actually,” he responded in an interview with Bryan Hoch.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke about Gerrit Cole’s contributions even while injured. When asked if he saw Cole potentially becoming a manager someday, Boone quipped, “He’ll probably be an owner.”

Gerrit Cole, present at Fenway Park, mentioned that he expects to discuss his next start soon. “I feel really good today. I felt really good last night,” he said. However, he doesn’t anticipate returning fully built up to 100 pitches, indicating there’s still some way to go in his recovery.

The New York Yankees ace isn’t sure when exactly he will return from the injured list, but he’s excited about his progress. Before Saturday’s game against the Red Sox, Gerrit Cole was described as “giddy” when he spoke to the media at Fenway Park after his latest rehab outing. This optimism follows his third rehab appearance and first with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Gerrit Cole was dominant in his Friday night outing in Rochester, throwing 70 pitches over 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits, one unearned run, and no walks, while striking out ten. He also generated 21 whiffs, showcasing his readiness.

With the Yankees owning the best record in MLB entering Saturday, they aren’t in a hurry to rush Gerrit Cole back, especially given the strong performance of the current starting rotation. Despite this, Cole’s return appears imminent, potentially lining up with a series against the Baltimore Orioles after the current trip to Boston.
