Carlos Rodon‘s inaugural season with the Yankees deviated significantly from their expectations after securing him with a substantial contract. Hampered by injuries, he only managed 14 starts, delivering a subpar performance with a 3-8 record and a concerning 6.85 ERA.
However, there’s optimism for a resurgence in 2024, according to insights from Carlos Rodon’s former teammate, Lance Lynn. The pitcher, who shared the White Sox mound with the Yankees starter in 2021, recently provided his perspective.
Carlos Rodon poised for Yankees comeback per ex-teammate
He underscored Carlos Rodon’s competitive nature, noting that “when he’s in a good headspace and feeling good, he’s one of the best competitors on the field.” Lynn acknowledged the unique challenges of playing in New York, describing it as “a different beast.”
Despite Carlos Rodon’s challenging debut year, Lynn remains hopeful about his future with the Yankees. Lynn believes that many players experience significant improvement in their second year with a new team, hinting that adapting to the pressure and the new environment might have contributed to his struggles in the Bronx.
Additionally, Lynn highlighted his ex-teammate’s commitment to bouncing back, portraying him as a “bulldog” on the mound with tenacity and a strong desire to succeed. Lynn is optimistic that a healthy and focused Carlos Rodon can reestablish himself as a top-tier left-handed pitcher in the league.
This optimism aligns with recent comments from Yankees GM Brian Cashman, who praised the Yankees starter’s offseason efforts, emphasizing his arm action and work ethic. Cashman expressed confidence, stating, “I’m very optimistic that Rodon can return to form and be the pitcher we know he’s capable of being.”
While the ability of Carlos Rodon to silence skeptics and meet expectations remains uncertain, the confidence from his former teammate and the team’s support suggests that he will have another opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming season.
