New York Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo’s bond with his dog, Kevin, perfectly captures the timeless saying that a dog is man’s best friend. Known for having his furry companion by his side throughout his career, Rizzo’s four-legged friend even played a part in convincing Aaron Judge to re-sign with the Yankees.
Kevin is a beloved member of the Rizzo family, so much so that the first baseman featured him on his cleats during Friday’s game against the Cubs in Chicago. The custom shoes showcased Kevin nestled in a hot dog bun, topped off with the Yankees’ signature Bronx Bombers hat.
This isn’t the first time Kevin has inspired Rizzo’s game-day gear. Back in 2021, while still with the Cubs, The Yankees star also sported custom cleats featuring his canine companion, highlighting the strong bond between the two.
With Kevin on his cleats and facing his former team, Rizzo entered Friday’s contest against the Cubs with added motivation. The Yankees, eager to bounce back after dropping two straight, secured a 3-0 win at Wrigley Field. Rizzo contributed by going 1-for-3 with a walk, adding to the team’s overall strong performance.
Luis Gil led a dominant outing for the Yankees’ pitching staff, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing only one hit, while the bullpen shut down the Cubs to seal the victory. The win improved the Yankees’ record to 81-60.
