DJ LeMahieu was scratched from the Yankees’ lineup after being struck in the face by a throw during batting practice. The incident occurred during warm-ups before the game against the Colorado Rockies, causing a tense moment on the field.
Dj LeMahieu immediately dropped to the ground, visibly in pain, prompting a swift response from the Yankees’ medical team. Fortunately, reports indicate that he is up and appears to be okay.
How it happened
Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported that the Yankees‘ staff rushed to his aid as the rest of the team watched anxiously. Kirschner later updated that LeMahieu was back on his feet and seemed to be alright.
LeMahieu, a key component of the Yankees’ lineup, has been enduring a difficult season. After going 0-for-5 in the Yankees’ 9-5, 12-inning loss to Cleveland on Tuesday, Aaron Boone addressed his struggles, saying, “It was a tough night. He had some opportunities.” Boone added that while LeMahieu has “shown some flashes,” this stretch has been “rough” for him.
Given the Yankees’ cautious approach to player health, they will likely make a careful decision about whether LeMahieu can continue playing.
