The New York Yankees are poised for a dynamic offseason, generating plenty of buzz around possible high-profile acquisitions. While players like Juan Soto dominate the spotlight, the Yankees are also developing young talent within their system who could make an impact in the 2025 season.
Jasson Dominguez: The Yankees’ top prospect with big potential
Among these promising prospects is 21-year-old outfielder Jasson Dominguez, ranked as the Yankees’ top prospect and 14th overall in MLB’s prospect list. Although Dominguez’s season ended prematurely due to Tommy John surgery in September, Yankees manager Aaron Boone remains optimistic about his future.
Speaking on Monday, Boone expressed his enthusiasm: “I believe Jasson will be a tremendous player in the big leagues. I love his talent and character, and I fully expect him to be a big part of what we’re building.”
Dominguez’s defensive position remains undecided as Boone hinted that offseason acquisitions will influence the lineup. Dominguez played in 26 games last season, hitting .207 with six home runs, 11 RBIs, and a .747 OPS. While his major league stats are still developing, his minor league performance points to potential, with a .274 average, 22 homers, 87 RBIs, and 47 stolen bases per 162 games.
Caleb Durbin’s wersatility could earn him a roster spot
Another player Boone spotlighted is utility infielder Caleb Durbin, a 24-year-old currently thriving in the Arizona Fall League. Acquired in 2022 from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for reliever Lucas Luetge, Durbin has shown his versatility, posting a .296 average with four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases. Boone praised Durbin as a “stud” for his hitting ability, versatility, and gritty approach, expressing that Durbin could play a significant role in 2025.
Amid potential roster shifts, Durbin’s versatility becomes valuable, especially with long-time second baseman Gleyber Torres now a free agent. Durbin concluded last season with a .275 average and .839 OPS across several minor league levels, demonstrating his adaptability to various infield positions and his reliability at the plate.
Meanwhile, Yankees captain Aaron Judge has remained a focal point, coming off a season where he is a favorite for the AL MVP title. However, despite Judge’s regular-season dominance, his postseason performance faltered, including a costly error that contributed to the Dodgers clinching the World Series. MLB analyst Scott Braun, appearing on PIX11’s SportsNation, raised questions about Judge’s longevity as a center fielder, suggesting that a move to a corner outfield spot might better suit him.
Nicknamed “The Martian,” Dominguez is another strong option for center field, a position currently held by Judge. Braun speculated that Dominguez, with his athletic prowess, might eventually take over center field duties, allowing Judge to shift to a less taxing corner spot, especially if the Yankees acquire Soto in free agency.
With both Dominguez and Durbin showcasing their potential, the Yankees have promising in-house options that may help bolster their roster alongside any new additions. As they prepare for 2025, the emergence of these young talents underscores the organization’s balance between investing in stars and nurturing future contributors from within their system.

Dominguez was always scheduled to be a starter in the 2025 OF. To me, Durbin has nothing left to prove in the minors, and with his versatility and speed, I expect him to at least be a bench player on the 2025 Yankees, if not a starting infielder.
