After a spell on the injured list, New York Yankees reliever Nick Burdi is set to return to the mound. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed Thursday that Burdi, sidelined with right hip inflammation since April 19, is due to come off the IL on Friday.
Nick Burdi‘s journey back to full strength has shown promising progress. During rehabilitation, the 31-year-old right-hander displayed readiness by striking out all three batters he faced in a recent rehab appearance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Ahead of the Yankees‘ final game against the Houston Astros, Boone provided updates on key players, notably highlighting the impending return of a sidelined relief pitcher. As mentioned earlier, Nick Burdi is anticipated to rejoin the team for their match against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. Additionally, he shared updates regarding DJ LeMahieu.
DJ LeMathieu makes positive strides
In parallel, DJ LeMahieu’s progress continues to be closely monitored, as reported by SNY. Boone previously outlined plans for LeMahieu to accompany the team to Tampa, with the potential start of baseball activities approaching. Confirming this intention on Thursday, Boone emphasized uncertainty regarding the exact timing of LeMahieu’s return to live action.
“The plan is for him to come with us and continue ramping up this weekend,” Boone remarked, adding, “When the live stuff happens, not sure yet.” LeMahieu’s placement on the 15-day IL during Opening Day stemmed from a foot injury sustained in spring training. While a return seemed imminent weeks ago, setbacks prolonged his recovery process.
The prospect of DJ LeMahieu engaging in live activities over the weekend presents an encouraging development for the Yankees. The former batting champion’s potential return to the lineup sooner rather than later could significantly boost the team’s offensive prowess.
With a flawless record of not allowing a single run through 6.1 innings pitched this season, Burdi’s return adds depth and reliability to the Yankees’ bullpen. His impending comeback provides a lift to the team’s pitching rotation, offering Manager Aaron Boone another formidable option for middle relief duties.

Ridiculous. No back to back appearances, are like 3 in a 6 game series. This is what I mean the Yankees people who make these decisions don’t understand healthy vs. MLB ready.
