The New York Yankees exercised their club option on Aaron Boone for the 2025 season back in November, but questions remain about his long-term future with the organization.
On Tuesday, Boone acknowledged that discussions about a possible contract extension have occurred, confirming that the Yankees and his camp have been in talks regarding his future beyond 2025.
“Nothing has happened yet,” Boone said during his first presser of the spring on Tuesday.
Is Boone going to stay with the Yankees?

“I know there have been some talks around that. That’ll handle itself and work itself out. The reality is, I’m so fired up to be here today and to get to work for this organization and for [Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner] that hopefully something does work out. There’s no other place I’d rather be and no other team I’d rather be doing this with.”
Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner had already indicated in late January that extension talks were in the works. At the time, he spoke highly of Boone’s leadership, saying:
“I’ve always thought Aaron Boone was a very good manager, and that’s his reputation in the industry.”
Steinbrenner emphasized that while the front office was prioritizing roster moves in the offseason, conversations about Boone’s long-term role with the team would take place.
Since taking over as Yankees skipper in 2018, Boone has compiled a 603-429 record over seven seasons. Under his leadership, New York has secured three AL East division titles, six postseason appearances, and a 2024 World Series run, where the Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
As the 2025 season approaches, Boone’s status beyond next year remains an open question, but extension talks indicate that both sides are considering a longer commitment.
