The Yankees are reportedly exploring options to address key roster needs this offseason, with trade candidates Yandy Diaz and Devin Williams emerging as potential targets.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden has suggested that the Yankees pursue Tampa Bay Rays infielder Yandy Díaz to fill their first base vacancy. Díaz, 33, is under contract for $10 million in 2025 with a $12 million club option for 2026. He hit .281 with a .755 OPS, 14 home runs, and 65 RBIs last season.

Bowden proposed that the Yankees could offer a trade package including center fielder Brando Mayea and right-hander Zach Messinger. The Yankees previously showed interest in Díaz at this year’s trade deadline.

Devin Williams in the mix

Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams has also been linked to the Yankees. ESPN’s David Schoenfield highlighted Williams, who posted a 1.25 ERA with 14 saves across 22 appearances in 2024, as a potential trade target. The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, and the Brewers may consider trading him due to their reluctance to offer long-term deals to high-cost players.

The Yankees’ bullpen faces uncertainty, with Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle entering free agency. Adding Williams could provide late-inning depth and complement existing closer Luke Weaver, whose performance in 2024 established him as a key relief option.

The Yankees are addressing multiple roster needs while navigating the ongoing pursuit of Juan Soto, a key storyline in their offseason plans. Both Díaz and Williams have been identified as potential solutions to improve the team’s infield and bullpen, respectively. These developments come as the Yankees look to build a competitive roster ahead of the 2025 season.
