The saying goes, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” and for New York Yankees fans and their first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, this sentiment rings true.

After a promising start to the 2023 season, Anthony Rizzo’s journey took an unexpected turn in May when a concussion affected his performance. Although he returned from the injured list, he appeared to be a shadow of his former self, with declining batting averages and questions about his reliability.

A subsequent diagnosis of post-concussion symptoms prematurely ended his season. A period of radio silence followed until the recent revelation by Talkin’ Yanks – Anthony Rizzo was back on the field, putting in dedicated work. What set this apart was Anthony Rizzo focusing on honing his base-stealing technique, an aspect not typically associated with his game. Yet, for Yankees fans, witnessing their beloved slugger active and engaged was enough to ignite genuine excitement.

Yankees fans love Anthony Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo’s infectious charisma and on-field leadership have endeared him to the hearts of New York fans. He appeared to have resolved the first base concerns that plagued the team for years until the unfortunate collision with Fernando Tatis Jr. However, now, with sweat pouring and his legs in motion, it appears that a resurgent Anthony Rizzo is poised to reclaim his spot in the Bronx.

With a clean bill of health, Anthony Rizzo’s bat should slot comfortably back into the heart of the Yankees’ order. His first-half tear in 2023 proved his potency, and a return to form in 2024 feels like a safe bet. But this isn’t the same lineup he left behind. Unfilled free-agent slots, like the one dangling at Cody Bellinger’s feet, could shuffle the batting order and alter Rizzo’s familiar spot behind Aaron Judge.

Here’s a glimpse into a potential 2024 lineup, a fluid beast of course:

  1. Juan Soto, RF: Freshly acquired firepower ignites the top.
  2. Aaron Judge, CF: The reigning king holds court in his rightful place.
  3. Gleyber Torres, 2B: The young slugger continues his ascent.
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B: The reliable anchor finds a new landing spot.
  5. Giancarlo Stanton, DH: The Bronx Bomber unleashes his thunder from the designated slot.
  6. DJ LeMahieu, 3B: The veteran maestro conducts the offense from third.
  7. Alex Verdugo, LF: The left-handed weapon adds balance and pop.
  8. Anthony Volpe, SS: The future star ignites the bottom of the order.
  9. Austin Wells, C: The hard hitter anchors the battery.

While this is just a snapshot, expect Anthony Rizzo to remain a pillar in the middle of the order, adjusting his position if necessary to accommodate any new offensive additions. His bat and leadership are too valuable to relegate to the fringes, and his versatility will play a key role in maximizing the Yankees’ firepower.
