Joining the chorus of fans celebrating Taylor Swift‘s latest release, New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo made a statement upon arriving at Yankee Stadium on Friday, donning a “The Tortured Poets Department” hoodie. This wasn’t just a random fashion choice; Anthony Rizzo is an avowed Swiftie.
Swift’s critically acclaimed double album has transcended her usual fanbase, generating excitement even within the sports world, and Anthony Rizzo’s support extends well beyond his connection to her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Anthony Rizzo’s Taylor Swift connection
Last summer, Anthony Rizzo famously credited Swift’s music with helping him break out of a hitting slump. During a game against the Royals, he used “…Ready For It?” as his walk-up song and proceeded to go 4-for-4 with a home run. “Taylor Swift, it’s her summer, really,” he joked after the game, highlighting her positive influence – both on his performance and perhaps the economy of cities she visits on tour.
As the Yankees prepared to face the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, Anthony Rizzo’s batting average stood at a respectable .240 for the season. While a three-time All-Star and a mainstay with the Yankees for four seasons, Rizzo’s previous campaign was on the quieter side with only 12 home runs and 41 RBIs in 99 games.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, the Yankees were riding high with their first win against the Rays. Will the first baseman find his groove again and continue to celebrate with some Swiftian inspiration, or will the Rays pitchers silence his bat? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for certain: Anthony Rizzo isn’t afraid to show his love for great music, even if it means rocking a hoodie at the ballpark.
