Jazz Chisholm Jr. recently shared a moment that left a lasting impression on his journey with the New York Yankees. The star player, who was announced as the Yankees’ new addition last month, has already made a significant impact on the field. But it was a personal exchange with Alex Rodriguez that truly resonated with Chisholm Jr.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. receives Alex Rodriguez’s blessing to wear number 13

Alex Rodriguez, a Yankees legend renowned for his time wearing No. 13, reached out to Chisholm Jr. to express his approval of the young player donning the iconic number. “It was kind of sick to hear that from A-Rod,” Chisholm Jr. said, reflecting on the significance of receiving encouragement from one of the franchise’s most storied figures.

Since joining the team, Chisholm Jr. has been nothing short of transformative. His dynamic play and infectious energy have revitalized the Yankees, sparking a resurgence in the team’s performance. Offensively and defensively, he has become an integral part of the Yankees’ lineup, proving that his presence is making a total difference.

Alex Rodriguez’s ‘unexpected’ invitation to Old Timers’ day

The moment with Rodriguez took place against the backdrop of the Yankees’ Old Timers’ Day on August 24, 2024. The event honored the 2009 World Series team on the 15th anniversary of their championship season. Rodriguez, who played a key role in that title run, attended the event but admitted that he hadn’t expected to be invited.

“I was actually surprised that I got an invitation,” Rodriguez confessed after the game, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN.

“Honored. Very happy.” Despite his significant contributions to the Yankees, Rodriguez has not been enshrined in the team’s famed Monument Park, leading to ongoing discussions about his legacy.

Jeter’s take on Rodriguez’s legacy

When asked about Rodriguez’s absence from Monument Park, Derek Jeter, another Yankees legend and Rodriguez’s former teammate, avoided offering a definitive opinion. “I don’t make those decisions, man,” Jeter said, as reported by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. “That’s the best way to put it. I know people are looking for headlines. I think you got [Brian] Cashman here somewhere. I don’t even know if Cash makes that decision. I would call up Hal [Steinbrenner] and see what he has to say. Don’t get me in the middle of it. That’s a Hal question.”

Alex Rodriguez’s career with the Yankees spanned 12 seasons, during which he posted a .283 batting average, a .378 on-base percentage, and a .523 slugging percentage, with 351 home runs and 1,096 RBIs. He also secured two of his three MVP awards in pinstripes and played a crucial role in the team’s 2009 postseason success.

However, Alex Rodriguez’s legacy is complicated by his association with steroid use and his strained relationship with Jeter. These factors could explain his surprise at being included in the reunion. Despite the controversies, Rodriguez’s support for Chisholm Jr. signals a positive step towards mending fences with the organization.

For Chisholm Jr., the exchange with Alex Rodriguez is just another chapter in his burgeoning Yankees career. Wearing No. 13 with pride, he continues to make his mark on the team, all while carrying the endorsement of a player who once defined an era in New York. His journey with the Yankees is only beginning, but it’s clear that Chisholm Jr. is ready to make history in pinstripes.
